Sixteen Sydney sights, one page each, free ones first — eleven cost nothing, and three of the five that charge sell a free view.

Sixteen places, one page each. They are ordered the way this site argues the city works: the 11 that cost nothing to enter first, the 5 you buy a ticket for after.

That order is an argument, not a filing convention, and in Sydney it is unusually easy to make. The harbour, the beaches, the coastal walks, the parks, the oldest quarter of the city and the state art gallery are all free — and so is the footpath across the Harbour Bridge, all the way over.

⭐ More pointedly: three of the five that charge are paid versions of a free view. Sydney Tower, the Pylon Lookout and the bridge climb all sell height over a harbour you can already see for nothing from a ferry, a park or the bridge walkway. The two that sell you something you genuinely cannot get otherwise are Hyde Park Barracks and Taronga.

⚠️ What Sydney charges you instead is distance. The three clusters are a fare apart rather than a walk apart, which is why the caps matter more here than the admissions do.

⚠️ Two honest notes on the photographs. Sydney's colonial archive is very large and very well digitised, so several of these sets had to be filtered hard to keep 1930s glass plates out of a page about 2026 — three sepia scans still reached a contact sheet and were caught only by looking. And the Art Gallery set is all the 1897 building: there is no freely licensed photograph of Naala Badu, the 2022 wing the page tells you to start in.

Sixteen places, and eleven of them are free

This site covers sixteen sights in Sydney, one page each, and eleven cost nothing to enter. That is unusually true here rather than a filing convention: the harbour, the beaches, the coastal walks, the parks, the oldest quarter of the city and the state art gallery are all free, and the footpath across the Harbour Bridge is free as well.

⭐ More pointedly — three of the five that charge are paid versions of a free view. The tower, the pylon lookout and the bridge climb all sell height over a harbour you can already see for nothing from a ferry, a park or the bridge walkway.

The two rules that save a wasted trip

⭐ Take the ferry before you buy anything. An ordinary fare crosses the same water as every cruise sold on the quay.

⚠️ The best view is free and most people miss it. Mrs Macquarie's Point, at the far end of the Botanic Garden, is the only place you see the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge in one frame. It is a public park and it costs nothing.

This section is being written. The guide above is the section for now. New guides go up three times a week, on Monday, Thursday and Saturday, so this page grows steadily — it is worth looking in again. In the meantime the sixteen sight pages and the plans by trip length are finished, and they are the best place to start.
